New thermal center in Grado
The project involves the redevelopment and expansion of the existing thermal center in Grado city, built by the architect G. Avon in 1974, and the construction of a new building dedicated to water services, wellness and entertainment.
The complex is divided into four utilities:
– Swimming pool, common areas, common facilities
– Gym and SPA
– Bar, Restaurant
– Curative spa center
The intervention consists in a building dynamically extended towards the existing water park and which slopes towards the beach.
As regards the recovery of the existing building, all the fronts have been preserved with the exception of some new openings on the perimeter walls to give light to the back spaces and recover the two terraces on the sea.
From the main entrance, you can access the reception area and find the ticket office, waiting area, a shop and small bar, where you can be directed to all the activities of the spa: in the west wing there are medical studies and physiotherapy beyond at the rehabilitation gym and access to the therapeutic pool; in the east wing are located all the health activities related to sea and thermal water as inhalations, baths and muds; from the reception area there is also a direct access to the changing rooms and, through a staircase, to the swimming pools.
This large \”aquatic\” area, especially for families, includes indoor pools or directly connected to the outside: the indoor and outdoor pools are powered both with fresh water and sea water, at different temperature; there are different typologies such as children\’s pools, pools for fun, pools for relax and swimming pools; the total water’s surface area is 1356 sqm, for about 452 users. The outdoor area includes the garden and pools, equipped with relax spaces, a 40 sqm hydromassage tub on the solarium’s roof and entertainment.
From the main entrance you can access to the wellness area with the gym and the beauty center, both located in the west wing; in the east wing and on the third floor of the new building there is the SPA and the bistro.
The wellness area is divided into four topics, the four main elements: water, air, fire and earth.
To complete the spa complex there are two internal dining areas: a public restaurant, accessible from the lobby of the center but also from the long beach and the bistro for pool and SPA users only.
Particular attention was paid to energy saving and sustainability; in order to guarantee the performance requirements, the project involves the installation of a BACS control and management system, which will regulate itself in response to the external environmental conditions, ensuring the maximum comforts for the users of the building. In order to limit the energy requirements and maintenance costs of the lighting systems, will be installed LED lights, that automatically regulate the light, according to the natural lighting, using also an internal modulated shielding system.
