In October 2016 the Municipality of Udine participated in a public call for tenders for urban redevelopment and security program in the suburbs of metropolitan cities, ranking the 48th place in Italy and first in the region.
The project is an urban revolution, with interventions of recovery and new achievements that will bring back to life the entire district “Aurora”, with the attempt to reduce global emissions, energy and land consumption, natural resources.
The area hosts the abandoned Osoppo barracks, located in the north – east of Udine, not far away from the city center.
The project: The plan provides the reuse of the main abandoned buildings of the Osoppo barracks and the architectural restoration of the heritage, as well as the large green spaces.
The main aim of the project is focused on the residential component, while maintaining the possibilities related to different destinations: in fact in the northern area will be placed tertiary destinations that are adequately connected and accessible; the east area, which stands as an intermediate element between the park inside the project area and the agricultural area neighboring is directed towards sport services.
The project is not limited to the area of the former Osoppo Barracks, but also includes the neighboring areas, planning urbanization works at Oberdan square, along Cividale street, Bariglaria street, Tolmino street and San Gottardo street, the creation of cycle paths, planning an intermodal center and telematic connection and urban gardens.
Inside the big area will be placed a co-housing space, renovating an old building, a new Urban Center for public activities, the re-functionalization of a multi-functional building, social, cultural, educational activities, and finally sport areas with new fields.
Smart City: Intelligent technological systems, such as smart lighting, integrated into public lighting systems, infrastructural monitoring, are just some of the works that have been conceived in a perspective of innovation, technological view and smart design. Car-sharing and a bike sharing stations will be placed in the project area, new intelligent car parks have been designed, including waste management, as well as tracking solutions for people, objects, assets and animals … up to the indoor applications with smart home systems and personal security solutions.
